The team
LEO Project Foundation is staffed by unpaid volunteers only. Meet our fantastic team and read why they help LEO as a volunteer:
Anne Fernando
I help LEO as a volunteer because:
Leo is an idea I had for many many years and finally together with JR’s help we put it together. I wanted LEO to be different from the rest in a way that all the project fees given by our volunteers would go to the projects itself. I wanted LEO and its work to be totally transparent to all our volunteers; after all its all their love, commitment and hard work that makes the difference.
I thought that the project fees should be reasonable and we should have less overhead costs; no one in the team is paid by LEO and we all share the same vision in which to make a lasting difference and a positive impact on all our projects.
I am truly blessed to be working with a great dedicated team ( here in Sri Lanka and overseas). It’s great to be dealing with people from all over the word who share the same vision that we here in LEO have.
Our clients arrive here in Sri Lanka as volunteers and leave as good friends. The team here always goes out of their way to make sure our volunteers are well looked after and the projects meet their every expectation and more.
My aim is to see LEO making a difference around the globe, next destination being Africa and then Cambodia. LEO is truly a dream of mine which has come true and it’s turned out to be so much better than I had ever imagined it to be. I can honestly say I am living my dream being involved in LEO and it’s a dream which I don’t want to see an end to.

I help LEO as a volunteer because:
When travelling as a volunteer, as I have done myself, it is important to know where your money goes. It is important to me that aid is provided without financial gain and that the money I pay goes to benefit the people and wildlife in need.
That is why I support the non-profit organisation LEO Project Foundation.

I help LEO as a volunteer because:
After Having visited a number of orphanages in Sri Lanka I am convinced that having volunteers coming and giving their time to these wonderfully well mannered children really has a positive impact for both volunteer and child alike.
The placements for Elephant and Turtle conservation is also a great way to experience these wonderful creatures and raise public awareness of how much they need our help.
Amal
I help LEO as a volunteer because:
Whilst in the bank I use to take part in various charity events where I helped to clean up the cancer hospital in Colombo, paint a village school, collect and distribute books for the less privileged kids and was very involved with various Tsunami projects.
Although I had completed a course in Counselling in order to help the victims of the Tsunami I never had an idea to leave the banking industry and do voluntary work full time.
Having left the bank after many years of service I met up with Anne whom I had known since we were kids and she asked me to accompany her to a sponsored lunch which LEO had organised at the local orphanage. Since then there has been no turning back and I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy every moment spent doing LEO work. Seeing how a small good deed could make a big difference on these kids’ lives is worth every moment.
As my other passion in life is wildlife it’s very rewarding to be involved with LEO’s animal conservation projects, the gentle giants of the wild and the baby turtles are truly amazing!
Doing the odd charity event whilst at the bank is no comparison to being involved with LEO and doing it full time. I would certainly recommend it to any one who is thinking about carrying out voluntary work as in my experience no money could buy me the happiness and job satisfaction which I get by being involved with LEO.

I help LEO as a volunteer because:
When I first heard of LEO I got excited about what the organisation stands for. It is an organisation with an interesting approach and with a drive that will make it succeed in its endeavours.
Two years on I can see LEO’s vision materializing. I am happy to be part of this organisation and contribute in any way and form I can in the knowledge that we can make a difference for the better.
Alex Seigel
I help LEO as a volunteer because:
I believe in the aims of LEO which seek to promote education and opportunity to those who are disadvantaged. Having witnessed, firsthand, the extent of the deprivation and lack of chances that many Sri Lankan children have, I am committed to helping LEO’s attempts to help these children realise their potential.
It is important that LEO, unlike many organisations, puts all its profits into its projects so it makes all the more satisfying to work for them.
This listing is not yet complete. We have a great number of people helping LEO and will add more profiles in time.
