As we are at the end of the year there are a few schools out of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where families can’t afford to buy their children the school books for 2011. Therefore we are actively looking for anyone who is willing to donate books, pencils, pencils, erasers and rulers. We, the LEO team, decided to kick start the giving by arranging pens, pencils, rules, erasers, over 400 books and other items required for the new school year at a small village school near Kurunegala. This coincided with the school’s annual prize giving...
On a cold and grey October day I left the Dutch office to travel to warm & sunny Sri Lanka. The main purpose of this trip was to make certain that the 155 donated computers ended up in the right places. These computers were donated to give those of less privileged backgrounds (mainly children) the chance to enjoy computer education which will help them shape a brighter future. Together with our permanent LEO team in Colombo I travelled by car and bus from west to south, from west to east and finally from west up ...

Hellabeem, a school for physically disabled youth, recently replaced all their old Pentium 3 computers with computers donated via LEO. We gave them a grand total of 40 computers. Half of these will be used to teach and the other half is to be given to students that complete their education and leave the school to start their own business. From Jan at Hellabeem: Hereby the very first images of the computers and our students using them. We’re almost done replacing the computers in our main classroom, but there are still more units to be deployed. The computers are working like a charm. A bit of research ...
How something so small can make a huge difference. From our Colombo team: The LEO team was conducting computer classes whilst it was pouring outside when the little kids of the Colombo orphanage came running over and pleaded us to have their TV fixed. They were so determined to get their TV fixed that some of them were saying they didn’t want anything else but for the TV to get sorted. The car was parked at a distance from the TV and it was a bit of a walk. To make matters worse there was heavy rain outside and it was slippery. ...
What happened to the donated computers? The LEO team decided to set up a computer class at the children’s home in Kotte. The old computer room was in shambles and in total disarray and had not been used for years. We cleaned up the computer room, got rid of the broken machines and replaced them with working machines donated by LEO and sponsors CIMA Global, Ensior, Amaris IT and individual donations. Software was installed with the help of one of our volunteers, Wei. Simon (LEO staff member) and Wei got the machines ...
