Vermiculite. A miniral that improves the water holding capacity of the soil and is responsible for storing nutrients and releasing them slowly to plants. It is an important ingredient for our Square Foot Gardening soil mix and takes a bit of trouble to get hold of it. But I've found a supplier and ordered it. Waiting for delivery... today? tomorrow? Great news for our future Square Foot Gardening projects in Sri Lanka as I just read that peat moss can be replaced by the dust that holds coconut fibres together. Yesterday I set out to collect the materials required for the Square Foot gardening project. These included: wood (I should have tried harder to find left over wood, but I couldn't find any so I bought it) compost peat moss small shovel hammer nails seeds (radish, tomato and pumpkin) I couldn't find the vermiculite which is an important ingredient for the mixed soil and I didn't want to buy a drill for just this project. I'm not a very good gardener so if this works for me it should work for just about anyone. I can see this as ...
