Sim cards
Either during your transport from the airport to the project or during the orientation you will be given a sim card for your mobile phone. This card will be a pay-as-you-go card and has our in-country support numbers pre-programmed.
The card is not only great if you need us, but also to get in contact with fellow volunteers or call overseas. Calling overseas is reasonably cheap and you can always top-up at one of the many stores selling top-up cards.
For the sim card to work your phone needs to be unlocked. Some phones are locked and can take sim cards of your provider only. Unlocking a phone in the UK probably cost you between £5 and £10. In Sri Lanka the price won’t be much different, but note that they may not always have the equipment to unlock your specific phone.
