What to bring
The following list is by no means exhaustive, but gives you a better idea of items that may prove helpful when in Sri Lanka.
- LEO Project contact details!
- Insurance emergency details
- Passport & copy
- Mosquito repellent
- Sun block
- Trainers/flip flops
- Swimming wear
- Shorts, but not hot pants
- Jeans, sweater, good jacket and solid shoes (like trainers) if planning to go to the Hill Country (most people do and wish to climb Adam’s peak which has to be done at 3 AM so it will be cold!)
- Hat against the sun
- Proper clothing for at your project which keeps the skin exposure to a minimum in accordance to the Sri Lankan culture. Trousers/jeans/skirts should fall below the knees whilst shirts/t-shirts/top should minimize showing cleavage and not be sleeveless. Although it may sound obvious, please ensure that you are wearing underwear.
- Medication (for example hay fever tablets if one suffers from hay fever or prescription drugs. Don’t forget to inform us in case you are using prescription drugs)
- Antiseptic cream
- Dioralyte (helpful in case of having diarrhoea)
Extras:
- Children toys
- Flash cards (helps with teaching English)
- Sports equipment such as a football or cricket stuff
Do however keep in mind that buying these goods in Sri Lanka stimulates the local economy and that your extras bring the most aid if we together carefully decide where to best donate them.
