About LEO

The LEO Project is a registered UK based charity focused on improving education in low-income areas and promoting conservation issues related to endangered animals in Sri Lanka.

Our Objectives

LEO was founded in 2008 with the purpose of bringing Life, Equity and Opportunity to Sri Lanka with our three core initiatives.

Our first initiative is the education and welfare of children from underprivileged backgrounds. We provide the opportunity for education to those without access and ensure they have the best possible start in life.

Secondly, we work with a group of captive elephants who have recently retired from working life. We ensure they are loved and cared for, their physical and mental health needs met and they can live out the rest of their days in peace.

Thirdly, we work with a turtle hatchery which not only provides care and rehabilitation to sick and injured turtles, but protects turtle eggs and releases baby turtles to the ocean on the same day they hatch.

We are proud of the projects we offer and believe they are second to none in Sri Lanka. We are a non profit organisation and except for a small stipend to cover food, accommodation and transport, all of the volunteer fees are invested straight back into the projects.

We hope that you share the same values as LEO when you come to volunteer on our projects. We firmly believe that together we can all make a difference!
