Perhentian islands community & conservation volunteer project – Malaysia

Participate in LEO's community and coral conservation project in MalaysiaThe Perhentian Islands are well renowned as the most beautiful islands in Peninsular Malaysia and consequently have become a heaven for backpackers and travelers alike.

The increase of tourists has seen a decline in the health of the coral reefs fringing the islands and the dilution of the villagers Malay culture.

This project is all about restoring the natural beauty of the community and coral reefs.

Community and coral conservation project

Fun at the Perhentian Island community and conservation project MalaysiaProject activities
- Day 1(Monday)
arrive in Kuala Besut before midday, meet facilitator and travel to island. Water confidence session is followed by a snorkel at the nearby beach. A program brief and sit-down dinner.

- Tuesday to Saturday
The project is very much dependent on what needs to be done. It is therefore difficult for us to state exactly what you will be doing on which day. You will go on a weekly snorkel tour to help collect Coral Watch data and conduct beach cleans around the islands. You will run two school clubs one on creative English writing the other to increase their environmental awareness.

- Sunday
If you are staying 2 or more weeks then today is your rest day! If you volunteer for only 1 week then this is your departure day and time to say some sad farewells.
